Apathy vs. Action: It’s Time to Get Moving!

How many times have the circumstances of your life made you feel truly defeated? What I’m talking about is that sinking feeling when you’ve tried everything and just don’t see the point. Everything, from housewives to CEOs to rock stars to performers to world leaders, is subject to this phenomenon. We’ve all experienced days when we felt like we couldn’t keep up with the demands of daily life.

Some of us, on the other hand, have more days like this than others. Some of us have the delusion that this is the way our lives will always be. A difficulty arises when we experience this emotion on a regular basis. When it comes down to it, we feel like we have no control. Those feelings of defeat and despair stem from that. When we think we have no control over the situation, our subconscious mind tells us, “I should just give up.” Isn’t powerlessness a terrible feeling?

There is no scenario in which we are powerless. We are only told we are by our own minds. We can’t control everything, and that’s okay. Illness, accident, job loss, and shattered relationships are all examples of things that can happen. Those are valuable life lessons that will help us in the long run. It is true that many of us believe that we are powerless in every situation.

When we feel helpless in one aspect of our lives, we tend to let that feeling to spread to other areas, until we find ourselves in the centre of a chaotic mess. Reflections of our inner turmoil can be seen in our external circumstances. For whatever reason, we cease taking pride in our looks and dress more casually. Or we let the cleaning fall by the wayside because we simply don’t have the energy to do it. Or we just give up seeking for work because we can’t seem to find it. Alternatively, we can succumb to a slew of bad diet and exercise habits. We don’t feel like putting up the effort any more. Accepting our powerlessness, we’ve lost up hope.

If you’re feeling helpless, the best thing you can do is get up and get moving. So maybe we can’t have complete control over everything in our life. Most of them are under our control. It’s important to make a decision to take charge of other areas of your life if you’re feeling helpless because of your work position. Maintain a regular exercise schedule, clean your home and car, arrange your office, and clean and organise your kitchen cabinets. Taking any action can often free us from our “deer in the headlights” perspective and help us overcome the very problems that are making us feel so powerless.

Taking “Massive Foward Action” is something else I enjoy doing. To put it another way, it simply implies focusing all of one’s resources on one direction. Once again, we’ll use the job example. If you’re unemployed and frustrated, don’t give up. Take enormous steps forward. Make a list of all the jobs for which you could be qualified and send in your application for each one. Be unconcerned with your feelings for the position or the prospect of doing it for the rest of your life. For the time being, you only require “a” position to call your own. Don’t worry about the technicalities now.

Get in touch with everyone you know and ask if they know of any open openings at their workplace or elsewhere. Put in applications at the temporary employment agencies in your area. Use the internet to search for jobs in your area and apply for them. When you’re driving about, keep an eye out for “Help Wanted” signs. You should inquire about the position if you see one. You never know if you’ll be able to do something.

Do this for a full day or longer. Until you land a job, keep doing it every day. Something good will happen quickly, based on my personal experience. It’s possible that the job you land won’t be exactly what you wanted. But at least you’ll be relieved of your financial troubles for the time being, so you can begin searching for a career that truly interests you. Alternatively, you may return to school part-time to improve your chances of landing a better position in the future. Or you could start your own business on the side. There are no restrictions other than those you choose for yourself.

It doesn’t matter what you’re feeling helpless over, creating a plan of action can help. It’s common for us to feel like we’re in a box with no exit when we’re feeling powerless. It seems like every path we choose leads to a dead-end.

What happens if we sit down and come up with a detailed plan of action that we can implement right away? We come to terms with the fact that we are not helpless. It is the most empowering action you can take. Don’t accept life’s handouts passively. Get out of bed and start living the life you want!
